Stone Mountain Park is popular and most visited destination located in East Atlanta, Georgia.  It is one of the family vacation destination.

It's known for its massive granite mountain that features the largest bas-relief sculpture in the world, which depicts three Confederate figures: 

General Robert E. Lee, General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, and President Jefferson Davis. This sculpture has been a subject of controversy, especially due to its association with the Confederacy and the Civil War.

Things to do in Park:

Plenty of activities is offered in Daily Parking, it offers access to hiking and natural traits, public picnic areas, 363 - area Lake, Children playground, Covered bridge and Quarry Exhibit. 

 Some of the key highlights of Stone Mountain Park include:

  1. Stone Mountain Summit: Visitors can hike to the top of the mountain for spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding area. Alternatively, you can take a scenic cable car ride (Sky-ride) to the summit.

  2. Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad: A popular attraction for families, the 1940's-style train takes guests on a scenic journey around the base of the mountain, offering views of the mountain and its surroundings.

  3. Laser Show: One of the most famous events at the park is its summer evening laser light show, which features music, lasers, and fireworks projected onto the side of the mountain. This show is a favourite among visitors.

  4. The Confederate Memorial Carving: As mentioned, the monument on the side of the mountain features the figures of three prominent Confederate leaders, which has led to protests and debates over its presence. In recent years, there have been discussions about how to address the monument in light of its controversial nature.

  5. Hiking and Trails: The park is home to a network of hiking trails, including one that leads up the mountain. For those interested in nature, these trails provide an opportunity to explore the park's lush environment.

  6. Historical and Educational Attractions: The park offers educational exhibits, such as the Historic Square, which showcases preserved buildings and reenactments of Georgia's 19th-century history. There is also a museum about the carving process of the Stone Mountain monument.

Stone Mountain Park remains a top tourist destination in Georgia, but it has been a focal point of debate due to its historical connections and ongoing discussions about Confederate symbols in public spaces.
